It was exicting to be putting the first board up on the roof deck of the main house.

Little did we know how long we'd be at it.

January 11, 2004: snow
Tom shoveled out the house. There was some small (irrational?) satisfaction in that small spot with no snow.

Two weeks later, shoveling out the next snow was just a chore, even though the bare spot was then ¾ of the way across the back of the house.

By the middle of March, the back was done and protected from the rain by a temporary layer of tarpaper.

Then the wind came. Then came the first of many repair jobs on the tarpaper.

Almost done. Almost April. Almost not suffering high blood pressure every time it rains.

The blue tarp protects the stack of new ceiling boards -- already sanded and stained.
